Costumes Europaallee, 2014

  • A theatre piece by Christoph Frick, Martin Schütz, Bo Wiget & Ensemble, Theater Neumarkt, Zürich
  • Set design by Doris Dziersk
  • Tailoring Schneiderei Theater Neumarkt

In this theatre piece the ‘Europaallee’, a recently developed urban area next to Zürich’s main station, is used as a metaphor for the relationship between Switzerland and Europe. The basic costumes of the actors and musicians are business suits, which take the facades and the materiality of architectural buildings as their inspiration: big business, high-rise and high fashion. The subsequent withdrawal into the private sphere in the piece is visualized by dressing gowns made from the same fabric as the oversized curtains that cover the stage. In a moment of fear and uncertainty high-end outdoor equipment is introduced and is later combined with pieces of animal fur. The feeling is wealthy and beastly at the same time. This reflects the rather archaic end of the piece.
